Big Sur

On Saturday, June 2, we left Monterey around 10am.  The forecast was for cloudy to partly sunny skies, but God parted the heavens early on, and we enjoyed blue skies and beautiful views all the way through Hwy 1 between Monterey and Cambria.  Witnessed pelicans flying in formation, sea lions basking on the beach, and miles and miles of gorgeous ocean.   It took us about five and a half hours to travel 103 winding miles, this including a stop for lunch and gas ($6.89 per gallon for premium!).

The rugged California coast is one of the most exquisite places on this planet. It is an experience, not just a place, and the best way to experience it is on the back of a motorcycle! I wish there was a way that I could drive Ernie through this beautiful highway, so that he could enjoy it as much as I did.

The clouds rolled out to sea shortly after we began our ride.

Looking back where we have been

Pelicans

A motorcyclist's delight!

Our host at the B&B tells us they actually moved the highway to protect these guys; they were crossing the highway and getting hit by cars!

We had a relaxing evening in the beautiful town of Cambria.  After strolling through some of the art galleries, we had pizza at Lombardi's Restaurant, then enjoyed a sweet evening watching the waves on the shore.
