Sunday, June 3, we were up early and at Hearst Castle by 9am for a tour. Mr Hearst was a complex man with lots of money! It was an interesting history lesson. One thing I have in common with him, is a love for the San Simeon Coast. There are many beautiful views from his property which extends 40 miles inland and continues to be home to an active cattle ranch, as well as a few left-over exotic animals, such as zebras which roam the hills.

After leaving the Hearst castle, we drove eastward through vineyards, oil fields and desserts. Also saw the Tehachapi Loop, a train track which goes full-circle around a mountain before going through a tunnel. It was a very hot day. We are thankful for many things, including no rain so-far on our journey, and cooling vests that make the ride comfortable.
