We left Lake Tahoe and arrived in Virginia City the evening of June 8. We stayed in B Street B&B. It is run by a couple who restored this home to it's original state, and it is now registed on the Historical Register. It took them 3 years of renovation, after the home had stood vacant for over 30 years. Ate dinner at the Red Dog Saloon (only saloons are open here after 8pm!). The next morning (June 9), we wandered the streets of Virginia City, and Ernie (still the math genius) proved that all his research papers were accurate; the odds really ARE against you with the one-armed bandits!

The ride from Virginia City to Fort Klamath was one of the best rides on the entire trip. We finally left the winds behind, but enjoyed a sunny (although chilly) day. Route 66 doesn't have anything on Hwy 395 between Susanville and Alturas. We enjoyed views of ranches, open rangeland, grazing sheep, horses and cattle, high desert and the Modoc Wildlife Refuge (where we saw many antelope grazing and lounging in the sun). I took less pictures this day. Just sat back and enjoyed the ride and the beauty.
